10 Bible Verses to Inspire Simplicity in Your Life
Can we just take a moment to admit something? Life is BUSY. Like, really busy.
Like, I’m about to stand up and just start screaming crazy for no apparent reason busy.
Not that I ever have done that, of course. Ahem.
But seriously, we live in a world that is constantly demanding more from us. More work, more achievements, more possessions, more everything.
Between work, family responsibilities, endless to-do lists, and everything else that comes flying at us, it’s no wonder we get together and talk about the chaos of life like it’s a badge of honor.
But what if it’s not?
Is it possible that the chaos doesn’t have to control us every single day? Is it possible that God has an entirely different plan for us?
I hear Him. Calling me to slow down, focus on what matters most, and clear out the clutter (both in my home and in my heart) that so easily distracts me from His gentle voice.
So lately, I’ve been on a mission to simplify my life. To focus on what truly matters and let go of the rest.
And in this journey, I’ve found immense comfort and guidance in these 10 Bible verses that inspire simplicity in our lives.
Matthew 6:33
“But seek first the kingdom of God and His righteousness, and all these things will be added to you.”
Here’s the deal: Your #1 focus needs to be on God, not the million things screaming for your attention. When you put Him first, everything else just falls into place. Seriously. It’s like prioritizing what really matters and watching the rest of your life get less stressful. How awesome is that?
Proverbs 3:5-6
“Trust in the Lord with all your heart, and do not lean on your own understanding. In all your ways acknowledge Him, and He will make straight your paths.”
Feeling stuck? Overwhelmed? Unsure where to even begin decluttering your life? This verse is your reminder to step back and hand it over to God. He doesn’t expect you to figure it all out on your own. Trust His plan, sister, because He WILL guide you.
Psalm 46:10
“Be still, and know that I am God. I will be exalted among the nations, I will be exalted in the earth!”
STOP. Right now. Seriously, be still. It’s amazing how much clarity and peace we can find when we intentionally pause to rest in God’s presence. You don’t need to go at 100 miles per hour to be productive. Trust me, slowing down can actually help you recharge and refocus.
Philippians 4:6-7
“Do not be anxious about anything, but in everything by prayer and supplication with thanksgiving, let your requests be made known to God. And the peace of God, which surpasses all understanding, will guard your hearts and your minds in Christ Jesus.”
Okay, how often do you find yourself worrying about everything? This verse is a total game changer. It says instead of stewing in anxiety, take your worries to God—and then experience His incredible, unexplainable peace. Yes, even in the middle of all that to-do-list madness.
Matthew 11:28-30
“Come to Me, all who labor and are heavy laden, and I will give you rest. Take My yoke upon you, and learn from Me, for I am gentle and lowly in heart, and you will find rest for your souls. For My yoke is easy, and My burden is light.”
Jesus is basically saying, “Hey, are you exhausted? Burnt out? Overwhelmed? Come to Me and I’ll help you out!” Isn’t that amazing? You don’t have to carry all that weight alone—He wants to trade your stress for His rest. Yes, please!
Colossians 3:23-24
“Whatever you do, work heartily, as for the Lord and not for men, knowing that from the Lord you will receive the inheritance as your reward. You are serving the Lord Christ.”
Here’s your reminder that your work—whether it’s decluttering your home or managing that crazy day-to-day grind—shouldn’t be about impressing other people. Do everything for the Lord. What He thinks of you is the only thing that matters, and He values your effort more than your perfection.
Ecclesiastes 5:10
“He who loves money will not be satisfied with money, nor he who loves wealth with his income; this also is vanity.”
Ouch, right? This verse really hits home. If you’re constantly chasing material things or obsessing over “stuff,” it’s time to refocus. No amount of possessions will fill the space in your heart meant for God.
Hebrews 13:5
“Keep your life free from the love of money, and be content with what you have, for He has said, ‘I will never leave you nor forsake you.”
Contentment doesn’t come from more money or a bigger house or catching every sale at Target. It comes from knowing God’s always got your back! With Him by your side, you already have everything you need. Take comfort in that truth.
1 Timothy 6:6-7
“But godliness with contentment is great gain, for we brought nothing into the world, and we cannot take anything out of the world.“
Stuff is just stuff—it won’t last and it certainly won’t follow you into eternity. What does matter is how you live your life for God. If you want the ultimate “gain,” focus on Him, not on accumulating more.
Psalm 16:11
“You make known to me the path of life; in Your presence there is fullness of joy; at Your right hand are pleasures forevermore.”
True joy doesn’t come from a perfectly organized pantry or a sparkling, spotless house. (Although, don’t we all love those things?) It comes from spending time with God and being in His presence. Don’t forget that’s where the good stuff—the joy and peace—really live.
Time to Take Action!
Okay – that’s a silly headline. “Take action” in a blog post all about simplicity? Ha!
But in all seriousness, I really do hope these verses inspire you to center on God and make room for Him in your life. When you put Him first, your home, daily routines and heart will reflect that focus.
