3 Daily Habits To Be Good At Homemaking

You know them. Everyone does. Those friends or family members whose homes are always neat and tidy. Maybe you envy them. Maybe you greatly dislike them, but chances are they’ve adapted a couple of habits to keep their homes in guest readiness without exerting too much energy, and you can do the same.
What are those habits? Well, first off, let’s revisit the fact that it takes 21 days to make something a habit. So if you commit to trying these ideas for 21 days at the end of this time, you will notice that it takes little effort for you to keep your home in guest readiness also.
The Morning Habit
Have a morning habit of putting the house to rights.
If you work outside of the home, you may have to add an extra 15 minutes to your waking time to accomplish this. But if getting your home in order is important to you, then this 15 minutes of less sleep is okay. Do things like making sure all beds are made. All dishes in the kitchen are put in the dishwasher or away.
The Evening Habit
Before going off to bed, make sure your home is put back to rights. Straighten all magazines and see that newspapers are recycled or straightened up. Kitchen dishes are put away. Food put up. Counters wiped, floor swept. Dirty clothing in the laundry. The dining room table was cleaned off. Just a general tidying of the home.
The Personal Habit
Start training yourself to put things away when you are done with them. You would not believe (okay, maybe you would) how much NOT doing this contributes to the disorderly manner of one’s home. When you’ve pulled something out of the fridge, put it back. Use something in the bathroom? Put it away. Read a book? Put it back on the shelf when you’re done.
Of course, there are many more things that you pull out each and every day that can be put away when done with. Just start making a habit of this and notice what a difference it makes. If you’re worried about the messes your family makes, then let them know you would like them to do this. Don’t badger them about it. You just continue doing it yourself, and eventually, they will follow suit. If they are a little hard-headed about it, make up a little sign to place in the home to remind them.
I can’t promise you that Better Homes and Gardens will come knocking on your door for a photoshoot, but once you adopt these habits, your home will be cleaner and neater, and when your guests comment on how your home is always so neat, you can just shrug and give a self-satisfied smile.
